Experts Reveal: Yellowstone Supervolcano Unpredictable

Just days ago, Mt Ontake, about 130 miles west of Tokyo, erupted without warning, catching volcanologists and hikers by surprise. Supervolcanoes are far more unpredictable than regular volcanoes like Ontake. Research papers published earlier this year reveal that a super volcano like Yellowstone doesn’t need seismic shifts (felt as earthquakes) to trigger an eruption. Supervolcanoes are triggered by the buoyancy of their massive magma dome and Yellowstone’s magma dome is 2.5 x’s bigger than previously believed.
